Combination of alcohol and massage. For or Against?

If you come to a professional massage therapist in a state of alcoholic intoxication or a hangover, he will tell you something like the following: “Let’s postpone your session to another day.” And this will be correct, since the combination of massage and alcohol is not the best. A hangover massage should not be a temptation, even if on that day you have only one free hour to visit the massage parlor. Why is that? Now we will explain everything in detail.

Massage after drinking alcohol is not allowed

As they say: “You will live”, but the state of health will only get worse. There are several reasons for this.

  1. During the massage, lymphatic drainage is performed and fluid is dispersed. Alcohol itself dehydrates the body, and if you combine the 2 effects: massage + alcohol, which dehydrate the body, you will definitely not feel better after drinking alcohol. No wonder the masseurs recommend drinking as much pure water as possible after the session. Note, not alcohol, coffee or tea, but pure water.
  2. During the massage, toxins are released into the blood. And if you come to the massage after drinking alcohol, the eliminated toxins quickly spread throughout the body (alcohol dilates blood vessels), and you will definitely not get a positive effect for your health.

If you read somewhere that massage after alcohol is possible, now you know that it is not. The effect of alcohol and massage on the body at the same time will not be beneficial. If you have already drunk alcohol, it is better to postpone the massage to another day. Even the next day after drinking alcohol, it is not recommended to go for a massage. If you still feel unwell, ask to reschedule your visit. So you can get exceptional benefits from the massage, and not the opposite effect.

Why shouldn’t you drink alcohol before a massage? The same reactions that we wrote about above work here. It is important to remember the golden rule: “Do not combine alcohol and massage in any order.”

What massage is permissible after drinking alcohol?

There are exceptions, yes. And these are just a few massages: head massage and neck massage. At the same time, the masseur should work out all points as carefully and gently as possible. If we talk about the neck, then it is here that there are many lymph nodes, so this massage should be entrusted exclusively to a professional. It is optimal if it is a massage therapist with a medical education. When it comes to head massage, this is a great way to get rid of a hangover headache. If you do not want to endure a headache and drink pills, go for a massage. Only, be sure, inform the masseur about the cause of the headache. The specialist will select the appropriate massage technique and strength for you individually.

Another important point. Many active points, which the massage therapist acts on, lose their sensitivity after taking alcohol. As a result, the effectiveness of any massage is reduced. It is important to remember this point if you only want benefits for the body and get the most out of the massage session.
